As England basked in the summer sunshine of late July 2006, TV cameras began rolling at various locations around the country in preparation for the new Enjoy England advert – Discover the secrets of England’s best short breaks.
So here’s a behind-the-scenes look of how it was shot, as well as a preview of the finished TV advert (www.i-broadcast.net/visitengland.html). You can also read our blog about how we came to choose the music and the concept behind the film.
For each of the shots featured we’ve included some great suggestions for enjoying the locations and some of the activities featured.

Winchester Cathedral
The advert begins to the opening bars of the song ‘English Rose’ by The Jam. The first shot was filmed in the crypt at Winchester Cathedral in Hampshire. Hidden behind a statue, the young woman has her fingers to her lips as if she’s saying Shhh!
Chewton Glen Hotel Spa and Country Club
Through the faint ripple of water, the film dissolves through to the swimming pool at Chewton Glen (Hotel, Spa and Country Club). Two young women are lounging in the spa pool, one of whom puts her fingers to her lips in the now signature action of the advert.
Zorbing in Brockhampton
For those of you who like to enjoy England with an adrenaline rush, the next part of the advert will no doubt appeal. We see a Zorb being pushed off a hill in Brockhampton and follow it as it spins away.
London's South Bank
Bringing the viewer back down to earth, London’s South Bank is the next location where a couple relax on the terrace of the Tate Modern enjoying afternoon tea.
Durdle Door, Dorset
Leaving the city behind, we’re taken to the South West, where a young family are enjoying the view over a cliff top. The final shot is of the spectacular scene they’ve been admiring; the delightful cove at Durdle Door in Dorset.
